Old Fashioned Christmas–Pool Party!
The week before Christmas we loaded up all the missionaries who were on the base, 41 caregivers and orphans, several staff members, gifts, snacks and game prizes into five different vehicles, and headed off to a local restaurant. Our Christmas party is always a lot of fun, whether we go to a restaurant or host it here at the farm. This year, thanks to generous donors we were able to go to a local restaurant where we had a fantastic meal! They even made Popcorn for all the kids! For many of the kids, these parties are the only time they will get to eat a restaurant meal, and they have so much fun.We always enjoy playing games together, listening to the Christmas story, opening gifts and of course- the food!
This year’s gifts were extra special, since we had money donated specifically for certain items (like mosquito nets) and some other donations of items (matching t-shirts for everyone, toys etc) so we were able to get some lovely gifts for everyone- including the caregivers!
Even with all that fun, I am pretty sure that the everyone’s favorite part of the entire day was when we arranged for the kids to use the restaurant’s gorgeous pool!
I have never seen the Amigo Orphans behave like children like they did that day! So amazing to see the joy and excitement in their eyes as they splashed, swam, jumped, dove, and squealed in the pool. As we kept a close watch along the edges of the pool, we were reminded that for most of these children it was their first time ever seeing that much clean water, and for sure their first time swimming in it!
Thank you so much to all those who sponsor children in the Amigo Orphan Program and those who donated towards the Christmas party, it was a great day! We look forward to the next year and all the adventures that will come with it!
