Time to Catch Up and Get Organized…a New School Year has begun!

It is good to be back in Mozambique! As the Sponsorship Coordinator…there are a LOT of things to get caught up on after being gone for six months and having a new school year start. One consistent thing in the sponsorship program especially here is CHANGE…in all forms… good, exciting, disappointing and challenging. This seems to apply even more when a new school year begins. Lots of things are changing and it feels a little chaotic for me. I like to have things organized and systems in place to have things run as smoothly as possible…details and accuracy is important to me. But out here these things aren’t always important or high priority. I find it challenging with my “North American” mentality to know what is worth pushing for and what is better to deal with the best I can and not sweat it.  It’s at these times, I have to remind myself that people and children are more important than a system and ultimately I need to simply be the hands and feet of Jesus. Loving people the way He would…and rolling with the changes as they come.

Here are a couple good and exciting changes I’ve discovered this year:

  1. We have our highest number of students continuing in Grades 6 – 12 with 62 students. Even more exciting is 28 of them are girls! Having students continue with their education is wonderful and a HUGE success! It also means more work for our team, but we are happy to be able to do it.
  2. Eight young men are taking Vocational training in Chimoio, Gondola and Beira. Seeing them growing in their walk with God and getting the skills to move forward to a brighter future is wonderful. I’m looking forward to what the future holds for them.
